Vs. 2, “There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.”  The Pharisee’s and teachers of the law intended to hide the truth, but Jesus would ensure that their lies would be made known (vs. 1-12).  Is it coincidence that we are reading how Jesus addresses possessions on the most commercial time of the year (vs. 13-21)?  Christmas is about giving, let’s ensure that we are valuing the most important gift in Christ!  If God can take care of birds, He will take so much more care for us (vs. 22-34).  We are called to remember to be servants and Jesus points us to remember that things are developing that are pointing towards Jesus second return (vs. 35-59).

Regarding application… Are You Ready?  Vs. 35, “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning.”  Question: Are you ready?  This Christmas is flying by this year and I can’t believe it is tomorrow!  The first Christmas, not everyone was ready to receive Jesus.  And when Jesus returns again, not everyone will be ready.  As Christians, we realize that there is nothing in this world that is worth filling our hearts with.  That is why we watch and keep our lamps burning.  We realize there is a better place and a better hope.  Have a very blessed Christmas Eve and keep the light in your hearts always on as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Ezekiel 12

Vs. 2, “Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.”  Having eyes that don’t see and ear that don’t hear…Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah and later on Jesus would share the same thing.  Ezekiel was intructed to act out his message again…this time revealing to them the exile, yet the people didn’t get it.  He then acted out what would happen to the King Zedekiah as he would try to sneak out at night (vs. 12-14), but be caught by the enemy.

 

Regarding application…Are You Ready?  Vs. 28, “Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord.”  Question: Are you listening?  Even though many were already exiled, they didn’t want to believe that such things could happen to them and their nation.  What many of us don’t realize that we live in day where prophecy is also waiting to be fulfilled.  Question: What are we doing about it?  Don’t become complacent and think you have all the time in the world.  Be ready to let go of the things that you are holding onto and see where the Lord might lead you!

Matthew 24

Vs. 37, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”  Question: What time is it?  End Times. This was going to be a very difficult time for everyone involved, including us.  Jesus let his dicsiples know as well as us that the Gospel would need to first be shared to all nations.  Brothers & sisters, we are nearly at that time.  Jesus gave us a comparison that the end times would be like the days of Noah.  And those days were not good ones, for evil would increase!  But don’t let all this disturbing news discourage you, for Jesus already warned us against it.  There will be many false teachers and prophets coming to tell us things, we must always be discerning.  Jesus points to the eventual Great Tribulation.  And then Jesus will return (vs. 30), hallelujah!  Though we don’t know the hour or day, let us be ever ready!

 

Regarding application…Be Ready!  Vs. 44, “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”  Question: Are you ready?  We would be wise to stop procrastinating when it comes to being ready for our Lord!  Bascially Jesus is warning us to stop living in such a way that does not reflect the reality that Jesus could come anytime.  It’s like a parent telling us our rooms better be clean when they get home later on.  But as a child, we play and think we have all the time in the world.  But, the parent decides to come home much earlier than the child realizes.  Now, the child finds themselves not ready because they were goofing off the whole time.  Trust me, you don’t want to not be ready, just read the last two verses in our chapter.  Let’s be ready!  For the glory of our Lord, let’s be ready!
