Ezekiel 5

Ezekiel 5

Vs. 7, “Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: You have been more unruly than the nations around you and have not followed my decrees or kept my laws. You have not even e conformed to the standards of the nations around you.”  Because of the spiritual decline of Israel, God would have Ezekiel shave his head (vs. 1)…which was a humbling experience in his culture to do.  This reminds me of the book of James where we are reminded sin is like a spark in a forest that can turn into a wildfire!

Ezekiel 6

Ezekiel 6

Vs. 8, “But I will spare some, for some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered among the lands and nations.” The past couple of chapters, we would see Ezekiel doing different signs to show them of the impending judgment, but now God would have Ezekiel speak to them.  When Joshua and the Israelites orginally entered the Promised Land, they did not get rid of what is often mentioned the “high places”.  In our chapter, Ezekiel would refer to these (vs. 3-5) as things His people were still not willing to let go of.

Regarding application…Knowing God.  Vs. 14, “And I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land a desolate waste from the desert to Diblah a—wherever they live. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”  Question: Do you know the Lord?  Often times discipline comes because we have forgotten who our authority is.  God brought upon calamity because the people had forgotten about God.  Of course, in their minds they knew who Yahweh was, but in their hearts…well, that was a different story.  Sometimes, the only way for God to get our attention is simply because we really don’t know Him.  This week, we fill our heads with all sorts of knowledge from school, work and life.  But, let’s fill our hearts more importantly with the knowledge of our Lord through His living word!
