Vs. 3, “Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, an have carried since your birth.” God would exhort His people to listen, because the false God’s of Babylon (Bel & Nebo) could not even stop King Cyrus of Persia from invading. But our God is not made of material, but is a God far mightier that that. He will not be carried of like some statue, He will be the one carrying God’s people back to their Promised Land. Nothing compares to the Lord Most High (vs. 5)…yet so many of us have tried to put God in a box. Other religions carve out statues and idols to represent God (even God’s people have too). What else is an idol? Listen to the words of Martin Luther, “all such rely and depend upon their art, wisdom, strength, sanctity, riches, honor, power or anything else” are guilty of idol worship.
Regarding application…Salvation Is Near. Vs. 13, “I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.” For the Jews living in captivity in Babylon, God would encourage them that He will rescue them soon. For the student who is so stressed out from homework and grades, God is encouraging you He will rescue you soon. For the son/daughter who is so confused/disappointed by their relationship with their parents, God is encouraging you He has a solution. When we put our dependence and trust upon the Lord, God can do the most amazing things. Nothing is impossible with God. Take heart dearest brothers & sisters and look forward to Jesus coming nearer to us not only spiritually…but in His second coming!
