Vs. 1, “A prophecy against the Desert by the Sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping through the southland, an invader comes from the desert, from a land of terror.” Isaiah now speaks of the 7th – 9th oracles of God’s judgment. Babylon, Edom & Arabia…all had this in common…they were enemies of God’s people. The fall of Babylon told by Isaiah was a crushing blow for Judah, for they had hoped if Babylon could defeat the Assyrians, than maybe they would be safe. The nations of Edom & Arabia also will see similar fate.
Regarding application…Word of God. Vs. 17, “The survivors of the bowmen, the warriors of Kedar, will be few.” The LORD , the God of Israel, has spoken.” I wonder what it is like to hear the voice of God??? I imagine it is one of the voices with a booming resonance…God’s voice probably would make the best THX Sounds system sound like headphones. Anyways…my point about the Word of God is this: When God speaks…things happen. God does not just “talk the talk”…He “walks the walk” too! That is why we should never take God’s Word (Bible)…with a grain of salt. When God speaks…we should listen and act! One day all His prophecies will come to pass. Until that day…let us be God-fearing Christians who live out the Word of God.
