QT – Romans 8

Vs. 8, “Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.”  Previously, we have been talking about our flesh, our weakness, our sins…and we are starkly reminded how such a way of life can never bring glory to God.  But Paul now switches gears to focus on the living by the Spirit (Vs. 4-6).  Question: Who helps us from the pit of despair?  The Holy Spirit of God that was promised from Jesus!  This is one of my most favorite chapters in the Bible!  In this chapter, we are giving promises of life (vs. 1-11), hope (vs. 18-25), guidance (vs. 26-30) and most of all love (vs. 31-39).

Regarding application…God Has Our Back.  Vs. 28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  Nancy Hook shared this verse with me when I was a struggling 16 year old teenager.  It has remained very dear to my heart to this day.  It’s like God is basically saying, “It’s all good…I’ve got your back.”  In the struggles and pain of this life, we know God has something in store for us.  It gives us a hope for a better tomorrow (ultimately that tomorrow is heaven vs. 23).  So when you are feeling disappointed and alone in this life, find refuge in knowing the Holy Spirit prays for us even when we don’t know how to pray (vs. 26).  God has our backs (PTL)!
