QT – Psalm 128

Vs. 1, “Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.”  This psalm of ascent is a wisdom psalm.  In it specifically is God’s blessings upon the family.  When a family of God fear the Lord…God desires to bless them.  Back in the Old Testament times, to have a family and children were a sign of God’s blessings.  We see the value of the marital relationship and the children in a family (vs. 3).  Remember, while we know peace on the world is only going to get worse, we can certainly pray for peace in the church and in our families (vs. 6)!

Regarding application…Desiring A Family.  Vs. 3, “Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.”  Not only is it perfectly normal to desire a family…God wants to bless your family!  The topic of “family” can illicit both very positive and negative thoughts.  We live in such a disconnected world where it’s rare to have enough time to even sit down and have dinner together as a family.  I remember, my mom used to make every effort to have a traditional Family dinner on Sunday’s.  She would work so hard to make dinner and set the table so nicely.  Youth, value your family while you are still with them.  Your college days will soon be upon you and as you grow older like me, you will miss those precious times with your Mom or other family members.  Pray for your family and even your future family that God will bless you abundantly!
