Vs. 1, “May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him.” By now, there were many victorious battles won by God’s people…but one still stuck in the mind of many, when God delivered Israel from Egyptian bondage. It’s as if David is reviewing the many times God granted His people victory! This psalm reminds all of us that God is a God who delivers His people in their most desperate time of need. Remembering what God has done in your life in the past, can often spur you towards victorious living in the present & future.
Regarding application…Discouragement. One of Satan’s most effective tools is this thing we call “discouragement”. When I reflect upon the many times I found myself discouraged…I must admit that thinking of God’s faithfulness to me is often less remembered. The first time I applied for Bible College I was not accepted because of my g.p.a. (go figure). Thoughts of discouragement & fear that I may never achieve my goal for God loomed very strongly in my mind. It took four more years to find myself receiving my acceptance letter from Multnomah Bible College. It was during those four years that I began to realize that God was indeed faithful in ways I had never realized. Rather than looking upon the bad memories, I was able to realize God’s faithfulness. Thank God for his past goodness and keep your head up because He has much more positive things in store for you even in the midst of the storms of life.
