Vs. 5, “Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD , the God of truth.” Recognize this? This was also said by Jesus & Stephen. This psalm is similar to Psalm 23 and is considered a “trust” Psalm. Why was David once again turning to God? Because these were tough times for David and his enemies were once again doing whatever it was that they did to bring David down. Yet, David in his singing to God was reminded that his faith in God would prevail. True faith in God does not exist alone…faith in God leads also to love & hope (vs. 23, 24). Consider I Corinthians 13:13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
Regarding application…In God’s Hands. Vs. 15, “My times are in your hands…” When I lived in Oregon, I used to drive by a “palm” reader’s house everytime I went to church. Many people are facinated at the thought of knowing their future. Don’t forget….our lives are not guided by the lines on our palms…our lives are in God’s Hand! It is the hands of Christ that we see our times…for in those hands brought life. It is Jesus’ hands that show us our life. Not some pagan palm reader. The future is uncertain, but never fear for your life and times are in Jesus’ hands!
