Vs. 9, “O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. ” Psalm 7 is a Shiggaion in which David sang to the Lord concerning Cush, a Benjamite. Shiggaion: a lyrical poem composed under strong mental emotion. David wrote this while he was under persecution from Saul. We are not entirely sure who Cush, the Benjamite was…perhaps a servant of Saul’s, a liar who flattered Saul and went against David. Anyways…David speaks of his suffering and prayed that he would be delivered. Almost as if he is suprised at the suffering before him, he prays that God’s wrath would be on the wicked.
Regarding application…God Searches our Hearts. Look again up at Vs. 9. Often, when our computers start to run slower and slower…our assumption is that a virus could be on it. Most of us have Antivirus software on our computer harddrives. Why? Because the antivirus software will constantly scan our harddrives to monitor and check to see if there’s any sign of trouble. If it does find something, a good antivirus will send a message or alarm to alert us of the bad virus or program. My point is….God (in a applicational way) is like that Antivirus. He constantly scans and monitors the earth for minds and hearts that are pure. If God were to do a scan on you, what would he find? Though David was not without sin, he kept his heart pure for God. He was able to confidently claim God as his Shield and praise God for his Righteousness!
