Vs. 1, “Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” So Paul motioned with his hand and began his defense.” This testimony of Paul is not a defense of himself…rather it is a proclamation of the gospel with the evident purpose of winning Agrippa and the others present to the Lord! This is a dramatic scene, and this chapter is one of the very best exhortations from Scripture! Paul gave respect & patience as he thoughtfully outlined his testimony of Jesus. Paul was nearly successful in winning Agrippa to Christ…but in the end, he would turn from the truth. Agrippa’s comment on Paul being set free was true…however, the Jews in the region would have killed him and God knew the appeal to Casaer was the only way to save Paul.
Regarding application…Our Mission. Vs. 18, “to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” We had a lock-in last night and we talked about our mission in this life. We get so caught up in the here & now of our lives, that we forget the essence of our being. God doesn’t need us to help save the world, but he chooses to use us anyway! Therefore, we…like Paul….have a mission. We actually have a purpose!!! How sad it is to see Christians who have somehow forgotten the reason why they live. The task is overcoming overwhelming odds beyond human belief…but with a small amount of faith, God can move mountains! Through the eyes of Jesus, Satan is already defeated…it’s just a matter of time. Let us stand up in faith and help to turn the lost from darkness to light…from Satan to God!
