***We are taking a break from the book of Job and will finish out the Gospel of Mark.***
Vs. 1, “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” Good News is the Gospel, the Gospel is the Good News! We are reminded of John the Baptist important role of preparing the way for Jesus (Vs. 1-8). It’s also an awesome scene when Jesus is baptized and our Heavenly Father is truly pleased by His Son. It’s noteworthy to mention that at least seven of the apostles were fisherman. The qualities of fisherman were very similar to what Jesus was looking for as apostles (bravery, perseverance, work ethic and teamwork). Mark jumps right into Jesus’ ministry as he begins to grow in His fame and notoriety through teaching and healing.
Regarding application…Prayer. Vs. 35, “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” No matter how busy Jesus was in ministry…He took the time to pray. What an example for us all! Having just did a recent early morning prayer for one whole week, I can certainly attest to the benefits of praying before you start the day. However, I realize that not all of us are morning people (including me). But I still want to encourage you all to pray when you wake up in the morning. Of course, prayer is something we can do throughout the day. When you do your QT’s, sometimes we think it’s okay to just read His word and be done with it. But prayer is just as important. Prayer request: The CTC “Epic” Youth are going to a retreat @ Big Bear on Valentine’s weekend. Pray that God would work powerfully in our hearts!
