Vs. 11, “I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” Though John was discouraged, Jesus would be so compassionate upon John and give him such a incredible compliment. It shows that all of us are prone to getting down at times in our lives…and John the Baptist was no exception. On the flipside, notice Jesus’ rebuke for the immature and childish behaivor of God’s people. Even though Jesus and His apostles would do incredible miracles…many still would reject Him…goes to show us the overestimation of sign gifts & miracles that unfortunately many Christians today are getting wrapped up into.
Regarding application…Rest for the Weary. Vs. 28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” The church of the time and the Pharisee’s had put many burdens and rules in the live of God’s people. Though we stopped being slaves to sin and became slaves to righteosness…the yoke we carry with Christ is not one we carry alone. Often times, it is Jesus who carries both us & our yoke more than we will ever realize…rememember the illustration of “Footprints”. No matther how stressful and tired we can get of life & all its challenges and pressures…know that Jesus will get us through!
